Yoga & Mindfulness Therapy

The purpose of yoga for children and teens is to offer them the building blocks to navigate their minds and bodies with loving awareness and acceptance; arming them with coping strategies. My sessions incorporate age appropriate physical poses, animalistic movement, Qi gong, breathing exercises, EFT, simple accessible meditations and mindfulness practices. The classes are fun and energetic whilst keeping the philosophy and origins of yoga at the heart of each lesson. One-to-one sessions are more targeted to specific goals or to help support children with low mood, anxiety, hyper mobility, injury, neuro-diversity and coordination.

Who is Yoga and Mindfulness Therapy for?

This type of therapy can look different for each age range. Early years yoga therapy is very much based in movement through storytelling and expression, play, songs and mindfulness to connect children to their bodies.
As children progress, developing a growing awareness of themselves, we can deepen the way we practice yoga and explore mindfulness together.

From ages 5 – 9 we begin to arm children with ways to get out of their heads and in to their bodies- laying foundations for healthy minds, good physical health and a ‘map to explore their own internal landscape’ -But  what does this mean?

Well it can mean many things but really it’s as simple as giving children the resilience and tools to be able to advocate for themselves and their feelings. To be kind to themselves and shift their mindset through movement, breathing and mindfulness.

Who is Yoga and Mindfulness Therapy for?

Ages 9 – 16, the holistic approach and the idea of having a compass or map continues, we deepen the yoga practice into somatic movement and asana alongside mindfulness, meditation, breath work and EFT whilst keeping in mind the challenges that hormones and changing bodies may present.

Yoga is beneficial for all ages but really encourages pre-teen and teens to practice accepting and embracing themselves without a need for change whilst encouraging loving and supportive habits that they can have in their tool kit.

What can I expect to feel?

Usually children come away from sessions feeling energised but also calm. Practiced regularly, yoga can help children improve their emotional regulation, boost self esteem, body awareness and mindfulness as well as developing strength and flexibility. This type of yoga and mindfulness therapy can enhance feelings of overall wellbeing. Often children feed back that they feel a greater sense of happiness and calm.
